Terms & conditions
These terms explain how tutoring sessions with Garnock Tutoring work. They are intended to keep arrangements clear and fair for families and the tutor.

1. Booking and agreement
A free first chat can be booked online and is used to agree any recurring tutoring schedule. One-off online lessons may also be booked directly. A paid lesson is confirmed when the parent or carer and Garnock Tutoring have agreed the date, time, format, length and rate. The parent or carer making the booking must be at least 18 and is responsible for payment.
These terms apply alongside the individual arrangements confirmed before the first lesson. Nothing in these terms affects your statutory consumer rights.
2. Cancellations and missed lessons
Please cancel by email as early as possible. The time the cancellation message is received will be used to calculate notice.
These charges reflect the time reserved for the pupil and the likelihood that the appointment cannot be offered to another family at short notice. If the slot is filled by another pupil, no cancellation charge will be made. Exceptional circumstances will be considered reasonably and individually.
If Garnock Tutoring cancels, the lesson will be rearranged or any amount already paid for it will be refunded in full. No cancellation fee will be due.
3. Prices and payment
A 15-minute first chat is free. One-hour tutoring sessions cost £35 when the tutor travels to the pupil’s home, £30 at the tutor’s agreed location, and £25 online. Unless otherwise agreed, payment is due no later than the start of each lesson. Any cancellation charge is calculated from the price of the booked lesson.
Rates will not change for a confirmed lesson. Reasonable notice will be given of any future price change before further lessons are booked.
4. Lateness
If a pupil arrives late, the lesson will normally finish at the agreed time and the full fee remains payable. If the tutor is late, the missed time will be added to the lesson or credited by agreement.
5. Illness and a safe learning environment
Please do not attend an in-person lesson when the pupil has a contagious illness. Contact Garnock Tutoring as soon as possible to discuss whether an online lesson, rearrangement or cancellation is appropriate.
A parent or responsible adult must provide accurate emergency contact information and remain contactable during lessons. When tutoring takes place in the pupil’s home, a responsible adult must remain at the property and provide a suitable, quiet space for the lesson. The tutor may end a lesson where behaviour or circumstances make it unsafe or unreasonable to continue. Any safeguarding concern will be handled in line with professional responsibilities and applicable law.
6. Teaching and progress
Lessons will be prepared and delivered with reasonable care and skill, taking account of the information provided about the pupil. While Garnock Tutoring will support the pupil towards agreed goals, no particular grade, assessment result or rate of progress can be guaranteed.
Parents and carers should share relevant learning, health or support needs so that reasonable and appropriate adjustments can be considered.
7. Materials and online lessons
Worksheets and other materials supplied by Garnock Tutoring are for the pupil’s personal educational use and must not be copied, published or sold without permission. For online lessons, the parent or carer is responsible for suitable equipment, internet access and an appropriate learning space.
Lessons may not be audio- or video-recorded by either party unless this has been agreed in writing in advance.
8. Ending ongoing arrangements
Either party may end an ongoing tutoring arrangement by giving reasonable notice. Lessons already confirmed remain subject to the cancellation terms above. Garnock Tutoring may end the arrangement immediately where fees remain unpaid, safety is at risk or the working relationship has broken down, but will act reasonably when doing so.
9. Distance bookings and cooling-off rights
Where consumer law gives you a 14-day right to cancel a contract agreed online, by phone or away from the tutor’s business premises, that right will apply. If you ask for lessons to begin during that period and then cancel the contract, you may be asked to pay a proportionate amount for services already provided. Once a requested service has been fully performed, the right to cancel that service may end where the law allows.
10. Privacy
Personal information will be used only where needed to respond to enquiries, arrange and deliver tutoring, keep appropriate educational and payment records, and meet legal or safeguarding responsibilities. Information will be kept secure and will not be sold.
11. Questions and complaints
Please raise any concern promptly so there is an opportunity to put matters right. Questions, cancellations and complaints can be sent to hello@garnocktutoring.co.uk. These terms are governed by Scots law, and Scottish courts will have jurisdiction, subject to any mandatory consumer rights that apply.
